A stamping plate is a small engraved steel sheet: you fill the pattern with stamping polish, scrape it flat and lift it with a stamper to print it on the nail. One plate holds dozens of designs, which is why a few well chosen plates go a long way.

These plates are about 12 x 6 cm (4.7 x 2.4 in), made of stainless steel, and each one is engraved with a full page of images. The sets are built around a style so the designs on the nail work together.

What is in each set

A stamper, a scraper and stamping polish are not included.

  • Botanical Trio: a plate of flower and leaf icons with large floral textures, a plate of wildflowers and butterflies, and a plate of mandala and lace shapes.
  • Marble and Reptile Duo: a plate of marble and liquid swirl textures, and a plate of snake eyes, scales, animal print and skin textures.
  • Cats and Critters Duo: a plate of cats, paws and butterflies, and a plate of cats, snakes, skulls and eyes.
  • Studio Eight: all seven plates above plus the ornate alphabet plate.
  • Single plates: the ornate alphabet plate or the mandala plate.

Choosing your plates

  • Beginners: start with the Botanical Trio. Florals and mandalas look good even if the print is a little off-center.
  • Hobbyists: add the Marble and Reptile Duo for texture work that fills a whole nail.
  • Nail artists: the Studio Eight covers most requests, from lettering to animal print.

How to use a plate

  1. Paint your nails with base color and let it dry.
  2. Brush stamping polish over the pattern you want.
  3. Scrape the plate in one quick pass with a scraper card.
  4. Press the stamper onto the pattern and lift it.
  5. Roll the stamper onto the nail, then seal with top coat.

Good to know

Scrape once, in one direction, rather than back and forth. Wipe the plate with a lint-free pad and nail polish remover after each session so the engraving stays clear. The photos show the plates as they are engraved; patterns print in the polish color you choose.
